Southeast Tennis Comes up Short in Memphis, 4-3

By Brett Maikowski, Tennis Contact MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Southeast finished up its road trip in Tennessee with a loss to Memphis, 4-3, Thursday afternoon in a non-conference match at the HMSE courts. The Redhawks fall to 3-6 (2-1 OVC) on the season, while the Lady Tigers improve to 6-7 for the year. Southeast fared well in doubles competition with seniors Bryce and Drew Kristal defeating Ashley Murdock and Marjorie Ondeck in No. 1 action by a score of 8-6. Earning the doubles point in No. 2 play, junior Julia Masotti and sophomore Alyce Kelly took down Amanda Brown and Ekin Zafir by a convincing 8-2 margin. In No. 3 doubles, the Redhawks were unable to come up with the win as sophomore Elise Nattier and freshman Taylor Orahood suffered a close 8-5 loss to Lindsey Wiseman and Dara Toulch. In singles, Bryce Kristal improved her winning streak to three in the No. 1 spot as she captured the win against Ashley Murdock in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 10-3. Drew Kristal succumbed in No. 2 singles to Marjorie Ondeck 6-0, 6-1, while Masotti easily defeated Amanda Brown in a 6-2, 6-1 decision in the No. 3 slot. Kelly fell in No. 4 action to Lindsey Wiseman by scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Rounding out the lineup in No. 5 and 6 singles, Nattier bared a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Kristen Chamberlain and Orahood fell to her opponent as well, Dara Toulch, by identical scores of 6-0. The Redhawks return to action on Friday, March 21 in Richmond, Ky. at 10 a.m. as they compete against Eastern Kentucky in an Ohio Valley Conference match. |
