Southeast Tennis Drops Match to Eastern Kentucky

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast fell in their first of two matches in Kentucky this weekend to Eastern Kentucky, 5-2. The loss gives the Redhawks a record of 3-7 for the year, while evening out their OVC record at 2-2. The Colonels improve 10-5 for the season, while posting a 2-0 mark in OVC play.

In singles action, the Redhawks were only able to come up with two wins. Senior Bryce Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif. /Foothill) grabbed the first win in the No. 1 spot after taking down Svetlana Pimenova in a tight, three-set match by scores of 2-6, 6-2, 10-7. Capturing the second and final win in singles was sophomore Alyce Kelly (Perth, Australia/Edith Cowan) in the No. 4 slot after battling Anouk Faure to three sets as well before finally coming out on top by scores of 6-2, 2-6, 10-4.

In No. 2 singles, senior Drew Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif. /Foothill) dropped her match to Meredith Giles by identical scores of 6-3. Following in No. 3 play, junior Julia Masotti (Moji-Mirim, São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Integral Aplicado) was also defeated as she succumbed to Alexandra Sitnikova 6-3, 6-2. Finishing up in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, sophomore Elise Nattier (Flora, Ill. /Flora) and freshman Taylor Orahood (Montrose, Colo. /Montrose) both lost 6-0, 6-2 to Myriem Mhirit and Jemma Euers.

Continuing in doubles competition, the No. 1 team of Bryce and Drew Kristal was the only pair earning a win as they notched an 8-3 decision over Pimenova and Sitnikova. Playing as the No. 2 tandem, Masotti/Kelly suffered their first OVC loss of the season in an 8-2 match against Euers/Giles. Nattier and Orahood were also not able to come up with the win in No. 3 doubles as they dropped to Faure and Heimeroth, 8-1.

Southeast tennis will return to action tomorrow against Ohio Valley Conference opponent Morehead State at 9 a.m. in Morehead, Ky.
