Southeast Tennis Sweeps Sioux Falls, 9-0

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Southeast Missouri State tennis won 9-0 over Sioux Falls Thursday, marking the second straight day the Redhawks have swept their opponent at the Hilton Head Tennis Resort. All six Southeast athletes won in straight sets in singles and doubles action. In doubles competition, Bryce Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) and Drew Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) won their team-leading 10th match of the season and seventh straight over Catherine Goraj and Karmyn Hettinger, 8-0 from the No. 1 line. Julia Masotti (Moji-Mirim, São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Integral Aplicado) and Elise Nattier (Flora, Ill./Flora) improved their record to 5-4 as a tandem by defeating Jennifer Baker and Meggie Gough, 8-3 in the No. 2 contest. To close out doubles play, seniors Luz Garcia (Bogota, Colombia/Troy) and Kimmy Anderson (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) equaled the Kristal's score by beating Magra Caselli and Jennifer Wingler, 8-0 on the No. 3 court. Singles play was the same story as Southeast cruised past the Cougars in all six matches. Bryce Kristal beat Goraj 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 play. She is now 9-3 on the season and has won five straight matches. Her twin sister, Drew Kristal, who was named Ohio Valley Conference Female Tennis Athlete of the Week Thursday, defeated Hettinger by the same margin. With the victory, she extended her singles winning streak to seven straight. Garcia won her fourth straight match in No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Gough. In the No. 4 contest, Masotti continued her strong play of late with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph versus Baker to extend her singles winning streak to five matches. Elise Nattier (Flora, Ill./Flora) and Kimmy Anderson (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) won in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-0 over Caselli and Keri Eulberg in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches to make it a clean sweep on the day for the Redhawks. Southeast will be back in action under the director of head coach Mark Elliott, who has led the squad to an 8-5 record thus far in his first season coaching the team, on Friday against Hope College from Holland, Mich. First serve is scheduled for 8 a.m. EST. at the Hilton Head Tennis Resort. The Redhawks will close out the four-match trip on Saturday at 10 a.m. EST versus Middlebury College out of Middlebury, Vt. |
