Redhawks Lose Close Match to IPFW, 4-3

March 31, 2007

Final Stats

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Southeast tennis (9-9, 3-3 OVC) lost a close match to IPFW, 4-3, Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. The Redhawks got off to a fast start by winning the doubles point but were unable to close out the match in singles play.

Junior twin sisters, Bryce Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) and Drew Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) won the No. 1 doubles match over Stacy Lish and Ashley Coulson, 8-4. Julia Masotti (Moji-Mirim, São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Integral Aplicado) and Elise Nattier (Flora, Ill./Flora) earned the doubles point for Southeast by defeating Hama Hager and Lisa Bartelheim by the same margin. On the No. 3 court, seniors Kimmy Anderson (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) and Luz Garcia (Bogota, Colombia/Troy) lost 8-6 to Alexa Rang and Sachi Janek.

Singles play also got off to a good start for the Redhawks. Bryce Kristal made quick work of Janek with a 6-1, 6-1 straight sets victory. Her twin sister, Drew Kristal, beat Lish 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) in a second set tiebreaker. Unfortunately, those would be the last two victories Southeast would claim against the Mastodons. Masotti won the first set of the No. 3 match, 7-5, but ultimately fell to Coulson by losing the next two sets, 6-4 and 6-1. In the No. 4 contest, Nattier could not overcome Hager and was defeated 6-4, 6-3. Anderson dropped the No. 5 contest to Bartelheim, 6-0, 6-3. IPFW won by forfeit from the No. 6 line as Garcia was unable to go due to her ankle injury.

The non-conference loss drops the Redhawks to 9-9 on the season. They return to OVC play on Sunday morning against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. CST.
