UMKC Match Complete Results
KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Playing without two of its six players due to injuries, Southeast Missouri was unable to overcome its reduced roster, despite some outstanding individual efforts, and fell to UMKC and Southern Utah on Thursday. Individually, sophomore Daniela Garcia may all four of her matches of the day. As the number one singles player, Garcia won both of her matches and teamming with fellow sophomore Kay Ehlke won both of her number two position doubles matches. In the morning match against host UMKC (1-1), Southeast (2-10) got an 8-6 victory in doubles from Garcia/Ehlke. The tandem of Andrea Aldana and Cassie Foster, playing together in the number one doubles spot for the first time this season, fought hard but fell 8-2 to the Kangaroos number one team. In singles, Garcia made short work of UMKC's number one player Erin Rosenberg, 6-2 and 6-1. Foster also won in singles versus UMKC, posting a 6-4 and 6-2 victory over Riley Smith. Ehlke also had a great singles match, but came up just short against Deepa Mangalat 6-2, 2-6 and 10-8. Not having a number five and six player for singles, cost Southeast as they had to default both of the matches and fell 5-2 overall. Southeast had defeated UMKC by a 4-3 margin back in the Fall practice season. In the afternoon match against Southern Utah (2-3), Garcia and Ehlke were once again victorious in doubles in the number two position. In singles, the Otahkians were tough at the top part of the lineup, as Garcia and number two player Andrea Aldana both gained victories. But the defaults out of the five and six positions once again proved too much for Southeast to overcome as they fell 5-2 to the Thunderbirds. Southeast will return to Ohio Valley Conference action this Sunday when they travel to Clarksville to battle the Austin Peay Lady Govs. Southeast is currently 1-1 in OVC competition and will look to position themselves for a good seed for the OVC Tournament at the end of this month. |
