Southeast Drops Non-Conference Match to Saint Louis, 6-1

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State tennis (10-10, 4-3 OVC) fell to Saint Louis in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at the Redhawks Tennis Complex. Southeast was unable to build off victories in No. 1 singles and doubles.

Twin sisters, Bryce Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) and Drew Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) won their 14th doubles match of the season over Katerina Lozonova and Tara Grant on the No. 1 court, 8-3. Saint Louis answered back in the No. 2 contest as Jo Becker and Ana Renda defeated Julia Masotti (Moji-Mirim, São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Integral Aplicado) and Elise Nattier (Flora, Ill./Flora), 8-4. The Billikens earned the doubles point when Luz Garcia (Bogota, Colombia/Troy) and Kimmy Anderson (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) came up short to Rachel McCullaugh an Allison Dobbins in the No. 3 match.

Southeast was unable to build any momemtum on the singles court either. Junior Bryce Kristal won her third straight No. 1 singles match against Lozonova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. She improved her overall record to 14-5 this season. Her victory would be the last on the day for the Redhawks. Drew Kristal fell to Renda, 6-4, 6-2 on the No. 2 court. In No. 3 action, Masotti played tough against Grant but ultimately fell short, 6-2, 6-4. Nattier was defeated by McCullaugh, 6-0, 6-3 in No. 5 action. Becker won the No. 5 match over Anderson, 6-0, 6-0. Saint Louis won the No. 6 singles contest by forfeit as Luz Garcia was nursing an ankle injury.

Thursday the Redhawks netters return to OVC play against Austin Peay. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Redhawks Tennis Complex. Austin Peay is 1-5 in OVC play and 3-13 overall.
