Southeast Drops Final Match of Weekend to Samford, 6-1

By Brett Maikowski, Tennis Contact CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Redhawks couldn't come up with the win at home yesterday against Samford, as they fell 6-1. Southeast now falls to 5-11, 2-6 OVC for the year, while Samford improves to 12-5 and remains undefeated in the OVC with a 6-0 record. Starting off the day in doubles, SEMO wasn't able to pick up the point as all three teams went down to Samford. In No. 1 action, Bryce and Drew Kristal battled in a close match but came up short in the 5-8 loss to Taylor Morgan and Lindsey Mallory. Julia Masotti and Alyce Kelly also played well, but lost to Anna Jackson and Katie Weaver in No. 2 play, 2-8. In No. 3 doubles, Elise Nattier and Taylor Orahood dropped their match to Andrie Meiring and Rebecca Kirven, 0-8. Continuing in singles, Bryce Kristal won her second match of the weekend against Morgan, 6-0, 6-3, in No. 1 competition. Masotti won three games in her match, but dropped the match to Meiring, 3-6, 0-6, in the No. 2 spot. D. Kristal also lost to Jackson in the No. 3 slot, 0-6, 2-6, and Kelly was defeated 3-6, 4-6, in a close match against Kirven in No. 5 singles. Finishing up in No. 4 and No. 6 action, Nattier and Orahood both lost by identical scores of 0-6 to Weaver and Mallory. Southeast will travel to Little Rock, Ark. for their next two matches against Arkansas-Little Rock and Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday with the first match beginning at 10 a.m. |
