Women's Tennis Beats Tennessee State, 7-0

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (2-11, 1-5) earned its first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season when it defeated Tennessee State (0-12, 0-6), 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
Southeast improved to 16-2 all-time against TSU, and has not lost to the Tigers since 2001.
Nikole Novikova recorded her sixth singles victory when she blanked Kryston Mason, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot. Novikova improved to 6-7 on the year.
Elizabeth Nyenwe remained red-hot at the No. 2 position, defeating Shardel Suber, 6-0, 6-1. Nyenwe, who has won five-straight singles matches, extended her record to 8-5 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play. She has won eight of her last 10 singles matches, as well.
Ashton Hartley took down Khadijah Williams, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, Laura Garcia defeated Lezlie Knight, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, Lauren Schaper made light work of Kwatema Mensah, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Sarah Pettigrew beat Brittany Dawson, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 to round out singles action.
Novikova and Nyenwe then teamed up to beat Mason and Suber, 8-0 in No. 1 doubles. Hartley and Garcia followed with an 8-1 win over Williams and Knight at No. 2 and Schaper and Pettigrew were also victorious with an 8-4 win over Mensah and Dawson at No. 3.
Southeast hosts Eastern Kentucky in its final home match of the season Friday at 1 p.m., CT.
