Redhawks Beaten in Rain-Shortened Dual at Southern Illinois, 4-2

April 12, 2007

Final Stats

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southeast Missouri State tennis fell 4-2 to Southern Illinois in a rain-shortened match. Due to the inclimate weather, the teams played indoors at Sports Blast, the Salukis indoor facility in Carbondale, Ill. The teams played only singles matches because of limited court availability.

In singles, reigning Co-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Athlete of the Week Bryce Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) was beaten 6-2, 6-4 by Sabine Tsala Mvilongo on the No. 1 court. Her twin sister, Drew Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill), tied the match by winning her 13th match of the season in straight sets over Ame Blacketer, 6-3, 6-2 in No. 2 action. In the No. 3 contest, sophomore Julia Masotti (Moji-Mirim, São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Integral Aplicado) also won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 against Agata Skorupska. She has won three straight and improved her record to 11-11 overall this spring. Unfortunately, that would be the last victory on the day for the Redhawks. Freshman Elise Nattier (Flora, Ill./Flora) lost a tough match, 6-4, 6-4 to Jessica Flannery in No. 4 play. Senior Luz Garcia (Bogota, Colombia/Troy) dropped the No. 5 match to Michela Cruise, 6-1, 6-2. Fellow senior, Kimmy Anderson (Jackson, Mo./Jackson), was beaten 6-0, 6-1 by Martina Vianna Ce on the No. 6 court to finish the match.

Southeast (11-12, 5-4 OVC) finishes the regular season Saturday against Eastern Kentucky at the Redhawks Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the match that will determine the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds in the OVC Tournament next week in Nashville, Tenn. The match will also mark the final home dual for seniors Luz Garcia and Kimmy Anderson.
