Southeast Falls in Two Matches This Weekend

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast dropped both of their conference matches this weekend to finish out the season. On Saturday, they went down to Tennessee-Martin 0-7 and on Sunday, they finished with a 2-4 loss to Eastern Illinois, which puts the Redhawks at 5-15 for the year and 2-8 in the OVC. Against the Skyhawks in singles, Bryce Kristal fought a close battle in the No. 1 spot with Elizma Schoonees, but fell short, 5-7, 2-6. Drew Kristal also lost in No. 2 action to Sara Leavy, 0-6, 1-6. In No. 3 singles, Julia Masotti kept it close in her second set, but still dropped the match, 1-6, 6-7. Elise Nattier competed with Belisa De Brito in the No. 4 slot and went down 1-6, 0-6. In the closest match of the day, Alyce Kelly split with Ernestine Koornhof, 6-7, 6-2, but came up shy in the tiebreaker, 8-10. Finishing up in No. 6 play, Taylor Orahood was defeated by identical 1-6 scores to Mary Beth Gunn. In doubles, the Kristals lost a close 6-8 match to Leavy and De Brito, while Masotti and Kelly won by the same margin to Koornhof and Wahl. Nattier and Orahood weren't able to come up with the win in No. 3 doubles, as they took an 0-8 loss to Schoonees and Julianne McMeen. In singles against the Panthers, B. Kristal led off with a close loss to Sandra Sasidharan by a 7-6, 3-6, 3-6 margin. D. Kristal followed with a 0-6, 2-6 loss to Natalie Martin, while Masotti captured the win against Hayley Homburg by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Nattier competed against Abby Allgire, but was unable to come up with the win after falling 1-6, 0-6. Giving the Redhawks their second point, Kelly took down Cara Huck with the 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 victory. Finally, Orahood finished out the season with a 0-6, 1-6 loss to Stephanie Hurmazy. The Kristals were the only pair competing in doubles against the Panthers, and they easily took down the pair of Lydia Pond and Carrie Larson with the 8-0 shutout to end their collegiate careers with a win. |
