CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State Otahkian Tennis squad dropped its home opening dual squad match on Thursday at the Southeast Tennis Complex 6-1 to Harding University.

The Otahkians had several tough fought matches but were only successful in two contests. The number one doubles tandem of Daniela Garcia and Adrienne Bland bested Harding's number one duo by the score of 8-6 to get the match underway.

Freshman Tyla Wells was the lone winner in the singles portion of the match, defeating Harding's Laura Tollett 6-0, 5-7, 7-5 in an outstanding match. For Wells, it was her first dual meet in college.

"I just wanted to be consistent," Wells said. "I was playing the percentages. The match went long and I was a little tired but I was able to pull it out in the end."

Coach Donna Ryan was pleased with Wells effort. "It was outstanding for Tyla to come out and win her opening match of her career, especially in the number two position," Ryan said.

Southeast will be back in action at the end of the month when they host a Triangular Meet at the Southeast Tennis Complex.
