CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State tennis travels to Birmingham, Ala. to play their first two Ohio Valley Conference matches of the 2007 season. On Saturday, Mar. 3 the Redhawks will take on Samford and on Sunday, Mar. 4 Southeast will play against Jacksonville State. Both matches begin at noon CST.

Southeast (2-3) is coming off a split versus Central Arkansas (UCA) and Lipscomb last Saturday in Paducah, Ky. The Redhawks defeated UCA 5-2 and fell to Lipscomb 6-1 later in the day. The split moved their overall record to 2-3 in non-conference play.

For the Redhawks, Bryce Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) will look to continue her current two match winning streak in No. 1 singles competition. Her twin sister, Drew Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill), will compete in the No. 2 slot. Sophomore Julia Masotti (Moji-Mirim, São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Integral Aplicado) continues to play in No. 3 singles. In No. 4 and No. 5 action, senior Luz Garcia (Bogota, Colombia/Troy) and freshman Elise Nattier (Flora, Ill./Flora) will look to gain their first singles victories of the young season. Senior Kimmy Anderson (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) will finish out singles play in the No. 6 match.

On the doubles side, the Kristal sisters will try to continue their two match winning streak in No. 1 play. Masotti and Nattier will continue to play in No. 2 doubles after going 1-1 in their debut together last weekend. Seniors Garcia and Anderson round out the lineup in No. 3 doubles play.

Samford is 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the OVC thus far. Most recently, they won 7-0 over Kennesaw State in Atlanta, Ga. The Bulldogs are led by junior Anna Jackson, a transfer from the University of Kansas. Jackson will be the second transfer from Kansas that Southeast has faced this year with the first being Brittany Brown from Evansville. Seniors Emily White and Sarah McKey make up Samford's No. 1 doubles tandem.

Jacksonville State is 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in OVC play. The Gamecocks are coming off consecutive 6-1 victories over Shorter College and Austin Peay. JSU is led by senior Erin Higgs in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles along with junior Babette Lombardo.
