Women's Tennis will Compete at Home for the First Time this Season

March 11, 2003

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri women's tennis team will compete at home for the first time this season on Wednesday, March 12. The Otahkians will challenge OVC rival Tennessee State at the Southeast Tennis Courts at 2 p.m., weather permitting.

The Otahkians are currently 1-2 for the season recently winning against Bradley. Individual winners for the team included Daniela Garcia, Cassie Foster, Kay Ehlke, and Amanda Walker. Foster and Ehlke were also victorious in doubles action.

"The win at Bradley proved to the team that all the hard work they have done will pay off," said coach Mike Stevens. "It was a nice confidence boost going into our first conference match."

Tennessee State is currently 0-3 for the season. Gerald Robinson coaches the TSU Tigers.

"This should be another competitive, exciting match to watch, "said Stevens. Both teams have been near the bottom of the OVC the last few years but having been working hard to move up."

Next, the Otahkians will travel to Hilton Head, S.C. for the Hilton Head Tournament March 18-21. The opposition included Wichita State, Trinity College, University of Dayton, and Lipscomb University. The next home match will be Saturday, March 29 at 10 a.m. against Eastern Kentucky.
