Women's Tennis Hosts Tennessee-Martin

April 7, 2003

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State Tennis team (2-5) will play host to the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks (3-12). The match will begin at 2 p.m. at the Southeast Tennis Courts on Tuesday, April 8.

The Otahkians are coming off an important OVC match being cancelled due to weather against Tennessee State. This match has recently been rescheduled for Monday, April 14 at 2 p.m. at the Southeast Tennis Courts. The Otahkians have had over 50 percent of their matches cancelled or reschedule this year due to weather.

"The team is motivated and looking forward to this match," said coach Mike Stevens. "Our last five matches are all conference matches and this is what they have worked all year to get ready."

Junior Daniela Garcia is still ranked in the top five in the singles No. 1 seed and junior Kay Ehlke has moved into the top five in the singles No. 4 seed in the OVC rankings as of April 1.

The Skyhawks are currently ranked in the OVC in five top five singles and double seeds. In singles, Ramesh is ranked fifth in the No. 2 seed, DeWitt is ranked fourth in the No. 3 seed, and Bakron is ranked second in the No. 4 seed. In doubles Shearman/Bakran are ranked second in No. 1 doubles and Ramesh/DeWitt are ranked fifth in No. 2 doubles. Dennis Taylor and Georgia Argaez coach the Skyhawks.

"UTM has several good wins this year and a couple of very close losses against good teams," said Stevens. "This will be a very tough match for us."

Next, the Otahkians will travel to Charleston, Ill. where they will play Morehead State. The match will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.
