Tennis Continues Fall Schedule At Western Illinois

Oct. 4, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State tennis continues its fall schedule this weekend as it travels to Macomb, Ill., to compete in the second annual Hinds-Kellogg Classic on the campus of Western Illinois University. Besides the Redhawks and host Westerwinds, other teams competing this weekend are Milwaukee, Truman State, Upper Iowa, Lewis, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Quincy, Monmouth College and Olivet Nazarene.

This is the second tournament that the Redhawks have competed in this fall after faring well in a pair of tournaments last month during the month of September. Seniors Bryce Kristal (Pleasanton, Ca./Foothill) and Drew Kristal (Pleasanton, Ca./Foothill) opened the fall schedule at the ITA Clay Court Invitational in Montgomery, Ala., becoming the first players from Southeast to compete in the tournament.

The Redhawks then stayed south as they competed in the UALR Fall Invitational, held in North Little Rock, Ark., on Sept. 21-23. The Kristal sisters claimed a perfect 4-0 record in doubles to claim a share of the No. 1 doubles crown with Tennessee-Martin's Ernestine Koornhoof and Elizma Schoonees. Bryce Kristal finished with a 3-1 singles record to lead Southeast while finishing second in No. 1 singles at UALR.

In addition, the Redhawks were honored over the summer for their work in the classroom during the 2006-07 school year as they were named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Senior Kimmy Anderson (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) and sophomore Elise Nattier (Flora, Ill./Flora) were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes for their individual academic achievements last season.

Following the weekend, Southeast will be back in action in two weeks as it will compete at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
