Tennis Fares Well In First Day of Hinds-Kellogg Classic

MACOMB, Ill. - Southeast Missouri State tennis posted several big wins on the first day of the second annual Hinds-Kellogg Classic today on the campus of Western Illinois. The Redhawks have two players and a doubles team that advanced to the semifinals in three flight events.

Senior Bryce Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) and junior Julia Masotti (Moji-Mirim, São Paulo, Brazil - Colegio Integral Aplicado) claimed big wins in their singles quarterfinal matches for Southeast. Kristal claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Jennifer Salmon of Truman State in the Flight `A' bracket, while Masotti produced a 6-4, 6-1 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Sammi Schoen.

Bryce Kristal later joined her sister and fellow senior Drew Kristal (Pleasanton, Calif./Foothill) in capturing an 8-1 win over Jennifer Bradfield and Kasey Huisman from Upper Iowa in the Flight `A' Doubles Round of 16. The Kristals then posted an 8-2 quarterfinal victory over Allison Schmitz and Melanie Sandberg of Lewis.

The Redhawks will continue play at the Hinds-Kellogg Classic tomorrow morning starting at 8 p.m.
