Redhawks Gain A Pair of Wins At Active Ankle Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind. - Southeast Missouri State volleyball (2-1) concluded its season-opening weekend on a good note with today at the Ball State Active Ankle Invitational at BSU's Worthen Arena. The Redhawks edged the host Cardinals, 3-2 (30-22, 30-23, 23-30, 27-30, 15-13) in the second game before blanking Maine, 3-0, (30-22, 30-23, 30-20) in their final contest of the weekend.
Junior outside hitter Aubrey Dondlinger (Palos Heights, Ill./Parkland CC) and sophomore setter Sarah Barth (Germantown, Ill./Central) tallied double-doubles to lead Southeast in the first match against Ball State. Dondlinger finished with 14 kills and 12 digs while Barth posted 42 assists and 20 digs.
The Redhawks rallied to claim a 2-0 lead before the Cardinals took the next two games to send it into a deciding fifth in which Southeast came back from a 9-7 deficit to win the contest.
Sophomore libero Molly Davis (Muncie, Ind./Burris) paced Southeast's defensive effort with 29 digs and senior middle blocker Brenna Schlader (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) notched a career-best and Worthen Arena record six service aces to go along with 13 kills.
Ball State was led by senior Brittany May with a match-high 20 kills and freshman Alyssa Rio notched 41 digs.
In the second match of the day, Southeast easily captured the first two games thanks to a .364 hitting percentage and six service aces. Maine gave the Redhawks a scare in the third stanza before finally pulling away for the three-game sweep.
Schlader led Southeast with 13 kills and three blocks (one solo, two assisted). Barth (34 assists, 13 digs) and Dondlinger (12 digs, 10 kills) recorded double-doubles for the second straight match, while senior outside hitter Brittany Hastings (El Dorado, Kan./Circle) contributed 11 kills and Davis added 10 digs.
Missouri native Lindsay Allman led Maine with a double-double of match-high 15 kills and 10 digs.
For their efforts, Schlader, Hastings and Davis were named to the all-tournament team.
The Redhawks travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the UNF Labor Day Classic, where they will take on host North Florida on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m.
