Southeast Volleyball Drops Opening Games at Maine Tournament
Aug. 29, 2003 The Southeast Missouri State volleyball team dropped its first two games of the season Friday, as they lost to the University of Colorado Buffaloes and the University of Maine Black Bears. Southeast played in the first game of the Maine Tournament in Orono, Maine, and fell to the Buffaloes 3-0. Although they didn't win a game, Southeast made the match very close as they lost the first game 31-29. The Otahkians dropped the next two games 30-16 and 30-21. Emily Scannell led in assists with 26, and Suzanne Gundlach had 10 kills. Later on Friday the Otahks lost in an even closer match. After dropping the first two games 30-23 and 30-22, Southeast stormed back to win the next two games. But in the deciding fifth game the Black Bears captured the match by winning it 15-4. Scannell had 34 assists to lead the team, while Gundlach and Sarah Frost had 13 and 11 kills respectively. Southeast will try to get back on track Saturday as they play No. 11 Penn State at 7:30 a.m. Southeast will finish up the tournament Sunday morning against Rhode Island at 10:30. |
