Hastings' Big Night Helps Redhawks Capture 3-1 Win At North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior outside hitter Brittany Hastings (Wichita, Kan./Circle) recorded a match-best 15 kills to lead Southeast Missouri State to a 3-1 (30-21, 27-30, 30-26, 30-21) win over host North Florida in the second match of the UNF Labor Day Classic at the UNF Arena. The Redhawks improve their season to 3-1 with the win, while the Ospreys drop to 0-4 on the year. Junior outside hitter Aubrey Dondlinger (Palos Heights, Ill./Parkland CC) added a double-double of 13 kills and 15 digs for Southeast, while senior middle blocker Brenna Schlader (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) recorded 11 kills. Sophomore setter Sarah Barth (Germantown, Ill./Central) posted 48 assists and sophomore libero Molly Davis (Muncie, Ind./Burris) notched a career-high 32 digs The Redhawks erased an early 11-7 deficit with an 8-0 run which included seven consecutive service points by Davis to claim a 15-11 lead. A kill and four straight service points from Barth hiked Southeast's advantage to 25-16 and the visitors closed out the game by tallying five of the stanza's final nine points. Back-to-back kills from Dondlinger brought the visitors a 6-3 advantage in the second game before the Ospreys outscored Southeast by a 12-5 margin to gain a 15-11 lead. The Redhawks bounced back to score 11 of the next 17 points for a 23-21 lead that culminated with a service ace by Barth. North Florida evened the match at 1-1 entering intermission by scoring nine of the final 13 points. Down 3-0 early in the third game, the Redhawks produced a 14-5 scoring drive to post a 14-8 lead which included three kills from Hastings and freshman outside hitter Claire Keaton (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word). Consecutive kills from freshman Kaley Read brought UNF to within two points at 14-12 before Southeast used a 15-6 run to claim its biggest lead of the game at 29-22. The Ospreys would score the next four points before the game ended on a Dondlinger kill. North Florida received three service points from freshman Chelsea Rabe and two kills from senior Carrie Yonutas for an early 7-3 lead to start the fourth stanza. Southeast later regrouped behind five kills from sophomore right side hitter Karleigh DeLong (Corona, Calif./Santiago) to score 16 of the next 28 points to tie the score at 19-19. The Redhawks closed the match by outscoring the Ospreys with a 12-1 margin and culminated with a kill from DeLong on match point. Senior Amy Stroder (13 kills, 14 digs) and freshman Madeline Blevin (41 assists, 10 digs) each tallied a double-double to lead North Florida. Read added 11 kills and senior Meagan Wisnert produced a team-best 23 digs. The Redhawks close tournament play on Saturday with a pair of matches against Weber State at 9:30 a.m. and UTSA at 3 p.m. |
