Volleyball Falls to Undefeated Arkansas State, 3-0

Sept. 7, 2004

Box Score

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -

The Southeast Missouri State volleyball team will have to wait to get win number one. Arkansas State (5-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) stopped any momentum that Southeast seemed to gain in their three-game loss at Houck Fieldhouse this evening. The Lady Indians swept Southeast (30-27, 31-29, 30-27), dropping them to 0-5 on the season.

Southeast showed more offense than this past weekend and their defense held a potent Lady Indians offense to a .178 hitting percentage and contained Sun Belt Player of the Week Giedre Tarnauskaite to a minus .152 hitting percentage and only six kills.

Ashley Smith (DeSoto, MO/Jefferson College) led Southeast with a game-high12 kills, the only Southeast player in double-digit kills. Jessica Koeper (Jackson, MO/Jackson) finished with 8 kills and Jill Miller (Muncie, IN/Muncie Central) tallied 7.

Jamie Baumstark (Hermann, MO/Herman) once again led Southeast in assists with a game-high 32 during the match, she added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season.

Baumstark was amongst four Southeast players that recorded double-digit digs, with Koeper leading the way with 15. Lauren Scannell (Belleville, IL/Southwestern Illinois College) recorded her fifth straight double-digit dig match to start the season.

Brenna Schlader (Columbia, MO/Hickman) pitched in the defensive effort with four blocks, giving her a team-high 17 for the year. Southeast out-blocked the Lady Indians, 8 to 7.5

Arkansas State had two players with double-digit kills, Beth Jones with 11 and Robin Aaron with 10. Two Lady Indians had double-digit assists as well. Tessa Millikan finished with a game-high 24 digs.

Southeast will travel to the Western Kentucky Tournament this weekend in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They face South Florida on Friday at 5:00 PM, then take on host Western Kentucky and Illinois State on Saturday.
