Volleyball Wins Two More To Capture Tiger Invitational
Sept. 9, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri State volleyball (5-6) captured its first in-season tournament title under head coach Renata Nowacki by posting a pair of four-game victories over Louisiana Tech (30-21, 24-30, 30-21, 30-28) and Lipscomb (23-30, 30-24, 30-24, 30-18) on the final day of the Tiger Invitational, hosted by the University of Memphis. "It was great to see this team come together and finish matches this weekend," stated Nowacki. "This was a team effort for the fact that they believed in each other on the court and the play of our seniors this weekend was the main reason for us winning this tournament." In the first contest of the day, senior outside hitter Jessica Koeper (Jackson, MO/Jackson) tied her career high with 28 kills against the Bison, while posting a .373 hitting clip. Freshman libero Taylor Harbster tallied a career-best 28 digs and senior setter Jamie Baumstark (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) recorded 51 assists with nine kills. Southeast used Koeper's double-double of 23 kills and 12 digs to defeat Lipscomb in its final match of the invite. Baumstark finished with a double-double of her own with 51 assists and 11 kills, while Harbster concluded her weekend with 12 digs against the Bison. Baumstark earned tournament MVP honors and was joined on the all-tournament team by Koeper and Harbster The Redhawks conclude their season-opening road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Southern Illinois with a start time of 7 p.m. |
