Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Loss to South Florida

BOWLING GREEN, KY. -

The Southeast Missouri State volleyball team fell to South Florida, 3-0 in their opening match of the Western Kentucky Tournament on Friday night. Southeast (0-6, 0-0 OVC) was swept; 30-23, 30-27, 30-26 by the Bulls (2-1, 0-0 C-USA).

Southeast could not generate any offense against their Conference USA foe, hitting only .059 percent and recording only 28 kills to the Bulls 56 kills.

USF easily won game one, but in game two Southeast jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, but USF countered with an 8-3 run to tie the score 9-9. Southeast then recorded a number of blocks to put them up by eight, 18-10. But an ensuing kill by USF led to a 11-2 run that gave the Bulls a one point lead and held off Southeast for the three-point win, 30-27.

Southeast couldn't recover from the tough game-two loss and dropped the third game, 30-26.

Jessica Koeper (Jackson, MO/Jackson) led the Otahkians with nine kills. Jessica Wilfong (Park Hills, MO/Park Hills) finished with a game-high eight blocks (1-solo/7-assists). Jamie Baumstark (Herman, MO/Herman) finished with 21 assists and Lauren Scannell (Belleville, IL/Southwestern Illinois College) led the team with 18 digs.

Southeast finished with 14 blocks against the Bulls, who only managed five blocks of their own.

USF had four players in double-digit kills, led by Flavia Silveira's game-high 21 kills. Silveira also finished with 16 digs and five aces. Five different Bulls recorded double-digit dig numbers. Juliana Nogueira finished with a game-high 48 assists.

Southeast will take to the court tomorrow for day-two of the tournament to face host Western Kentucky at 10:00 a.m and then Illinois State at 3:00 p.m.
