CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Sophomore right side hitter Karleigh DeLong (Corona, Calif./Santiago) and sophomore setter Sarah Barth (Germantown, Ill./Central) recorded double-doubles to lead Southeast Missouri State to a 3-2 (30-27, 25-30, 30-14, 29-31, 15-10) win over host Eastern Illinois tonight in an Ohio Valley Conference contest at Lantz Arena. The Redhawks hiked their season record to 5-7 (2-1), while the Panthers dropped to 7-5 (0-3) on the year.

DeLong notched 20 digs and 18 kills in addition to posting a career-best nine blocks, while Barth added 49 assists and 17 digs. Senior outside hitter Brittany Hastings (Wichita, Kan./Circle) tallied 16 kills, senior middle blocker Brenna Schlader (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) produced a career-high nine blocks and sophomore setter Molly Davis (Muncie, Ind./Burris) has a match-high 30 digs.

The Panthers opened the first game with a 10-6 lead on a kill from freshman Alex Zwettler and a service ace from freshman Erin Hake. Southeast later outscored EIU by a 13-9 margin behind two kills from DeLong and junior outside hitter Aubrey Dondlinger (Palos Heights, Ill./Parkland CC) to even the scores at 19-19. Kills from DeLong and Hastings started a 7-3 run that gave the visitors a 27-23 advantage. After the Panthers sliced their deficit to 29-27 on an Alex Zwettler kill and a service ace from freshman Kelsey Orr, Dondlinger handed Southeast a 1-0 lead with a kill to close the game.

EIU notched an 8-3 advantage to start the second game before the Redhawks used a 6-1 scoring drive to forge a 9-9 tie. The Panthers broke a 14-14 tie with an 11-7 run to claim a 25-21 lead behind five combined kills from Alex and Eliza Zwettler and later scored five of the final nine points to even the match at 1-1 entering intermission. In the third game, the Redhawks jumped out to a 13-4 lead on a kill from Hastings and later increased their advantage to 21-9 on a block from DeLong and junior middle blocker Kim Unnerstall (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia). Southeast would claim a 2-1 lead by finishing the match with a 9-5 run.

Game four saw Eastern Illinois come back from a 19-13 deficit with an 11-5 scoring drive to even the score at 24-24. After both teams battled through five ties, the Panthers sent the match into a deciding fifth game with a Southeast hitting error and a Crabtree kill. Back-to-back DeLong kills helped Southeast gain a 9-5 advantage in the fifth stanza and the Redhawks later increased their lead to 12-6 on a kill from freshman outside hitter Claire Keaton (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word). The visitors closed the match by scoring three of the final seven points, including a kill by Schlader at match point.
