Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Loss to Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri state volleyball team tried, but couldn't take down Big 12 power Missouri, losing in straight games, 3-0 at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo.

In game one Southeast (1-9, 0-0 OVC) came out the aggressor jumping out to a quick 8-3 lead. Jessica Koeper (Jackson, MO/Jackson) led the early offensive attack with three kills. Mizzou (6-3, 1-1 Big 12) started to chip away at the lead eventually grabbing it 18-17 on a Nicole Wilson kill. Southeast would not see the lead again in the game, losing 30-21.

Southeast hit .235 in game one, but Mizzou hit .395. Jill Miller (Muncie, IN/Muncie Central) and Koeper each recorded four kills in game one.
 

 

The strong start in game one did not carryover to game two as Mizzou shutdown the Southeast offense to win 30-7. Mizzou held Southeast to a -.111 hitting percentage while hitting .516.

In game three Southeast found their offense and pulled out to a 11-8 lead and kept Mizzou at bay until a Na Yang kill gave the Tigers a 17-16 lead. They would hold on for the 30-20 win and the match victory.

Miller finished with a team-high ten kills. Jamie Baumstark (Hermann, MO/Hermann) finished with 25 assists.

Lauren Scannell (Belleville, IL/Southwestern Illinois College) led the team in digs with ten, her tenth straight double-digit dig match.

The Tigers had four players in double figures in kills. Jessica Vander Kooi finished with a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Lindsay Hunter handed out 47 assists and Tatum Ailes finished with a game-high 13 digs.

Southeast ends their seven game road trip this weekend when they travel to Austin Peay for their conference opener on Friday, September 24 and Tennessee Tech on Saturday, September 25.
