Southeast Sweeps Struggling Tennesse State

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - For the Southeast Missouri State volleyball team, playing Tennessee State was just the right medicine. Southeast (3-13, 2-2 OVC) hit a season-high .423 in the match. The Lady Tigers of Tennessee State (4-10, 0-3 OVC) were outmatched by Southeast in every aspect of the game.

Southeast swept the match 3-0 (30-19, 30-11, 30-14) to even its conference record at 2-2.

Leading the way for the Otahkians was senior setter Emily Scannell. In addition to her match-high 27 assists, she had eight kills on 10 attempts, for a .700 PCT. Scannell also had a match-high 10 digs and 3 aces.

Fellow senior Suzanne Gundlach had a match-high 13 kills, with a .591 hitting percentage.

Freshman Jamie Baumstark is quickly becoming a force both at the net and when she's serving. She scored personal bests in both kills and aces. She hit .692 in the match with nine kills. And her seven aces is the highest total for any Southeast player this season. Baumstark now has an outstanding .75 aces per game.

For the Lady Tigers, senior outside hitter Jennifer Corral led her team with eight kills. Sophomore Catherine Armwood led the way with 10 digs. Tennessee State had only 25 kills and hit only .119 for the match.

Southeast will next play Sunday at 2 p.m. against Memphis (15-1) at Houck Field House.
