Southeast Volleyball Swept by Austin Peay
Oct. 11, 2003
For the first time since 1992, the Lady Govs of Austin Peay sweep the regular season series with Southeast. They did so with a 3-0 (30-14, 30-25, 30-22) sweep of the match. APSU (8-10, 3-3 OVC) beat Southeast (4-15, 3-3, OVC) 3-1 in each team's conference opener Sep. 26.
A bright spot for the Otahkians in the match was the play of freshman middle blocker Jessica Wilfong. For the first time this season the six-footer reached double digits in kills. Her 12 kills and .364 hitting percentage were both tops for Southeast. APSU held senior Suzanne Gundlach, who had scored 10 or more kills in each of her last eight games, to just eight kills. Senior setter Emily Scannell had 31 assists in the match, giving her an even 700 on the season, leaving her only 182 away from second place on the all-time Southeast career list. Defensively, Gundlach led the way with 17 digs. Jill Miller chipped in with 12. Austin Peay had four players reach double digits in kills. Amy Walk led the way with 14 kills and a .520 PCT. Ashley Genslak and Julie Burkhalter each had 11 kills, and Sarah Schramka had 10. Schramka also led the Lady Govs with 15 digs. Southeast next will continue its five-match road trip with games at Tennessee State, Jacksonville State and Samford from Oct. 16-18. |
