Redhawks Ground Skyhawks, 3-0

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Saturday, October 15, 2005) The Redhawks volleyball team wrapped up their weekend home stand with a convincing 3-0 (30-18, 30-27, 30-12) win over visiting Tennessee-Martin Saturday afternoon at Houck Field House. The Redhawks put in another dominating performance as they improved to 3-1 in home matches.

It was all Redhawks (8-12, 5-3 OVC) from the get go as they jumped ahead early in game one 9-5 over the Skyhawks (2-23, 0-8). The Skyhawks pulled to within one, 10-9, but the Redhawks used a 13-2 run to spark the game one victory. The Redhawks had an attack percentage of .297 in game one while holding the Skyhawks to a .194 percentage.

Game two was more competitive as the teams went back and forth for the majority of the game. The Redhawks pulled ahead 20-15 but the Skyhawks rallied to tie the game at 25-apiece before finishing the game with a 5-2 run for the game two win. The Skyhawks out-hit the Redhawks in the second game .324-.205.

Game three was dominated by the Redhawks as they pulled ahead quickly 11-6. That lead extended to 15-8 before the Redhawks closed the game on a 15-4 run for the game and match victory. The Skyhawks showed little offense as they hit negative .031 finishing with more attack errors (7) then kills (6). The Redhawks on the other hand hit .367 with only three attack errors in the final game.

Jessica Koeper (Jackson, MO/Jackson) led the way offensively with her second-straight double-double. Her 10 kills and 10 digs outing was her team-high 11th double-double of the season.
 

 

Lauren Scannell (Belleville, IL/Southwestern Illinois College) recorded her 24th-straight double-digit dig match with a match-high 14 digs.

Jamie Baumstark (Hermann, MO/Hermann) finished with a game-high 33 assists. She also recorded three service aces to give her 142 career aces, just two behind Theresa Sebacher for sixth on the school's all-time list.

Jill Miller (Muncie, IN/Muncie Central) recorded one ace of her own and moved within one ace of cracking into the school's all-time top-ten with 112 career aces. She also recorded nine digs to move her into sixth place in the school's all-time digs charts.

Brenna Schlader (Columbia, MO/Hickman) finished with nine kills and had a team-high attack percentage of .471. She also recorded one solo block and five block assists. Her solo block gave Schlader 29 career solo blocks, ninth on the school's all-time charts.

Freshman Katrina Niemeyer (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei) finished with eight kills and an attack percentage of .412.

Brittany Hastings (Wichita, KS/Circle H.S.) finished with nine kills.

As a team the Redhawks hit .283 while holding the Skyhawks to .171. The Redhawks dominated the service line as they recorded six aces while the Skyhawks had zero aces, that was in large part to the Redhawks flawless receiving as they had zero receiving errors.

The Skyhawks were led statistically by Rebecca Palmer with 12 kills.

The Redhawk wrap up their three-match home stand when the host Arkansas State in a non-conference showdown on Tuesday, October 18. First serve is at 7:00 p.m. at Houck Field House.
