Volleyball Records 3-2 Road Win Over Tigers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Friday, October 23, 2009) – The Redhawks volleyball team extended their Ohio Valley Conference match winning streak to two-straight as they defeated Tennessee State, 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 22-25, 25-10, 15-7) at Kean Hall in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday evening. The Redhawks recorded their highest hitting percentage as they finished with a .276 percentage and finished with 63 kills.

After winning the first set the Redhawks (9-13, 5-6 OVC) dropped the next two despite combining for 26 kills and just five attack errors. In the second set the Redhawks had a attack percentage of .279 as they recorded just one attack error. The Tigers (3-18, 2-8 OVC) hit .234 in the second set.

With the Tigers holding the 2-1 advantage the Redhawks put on their best defensive performance of the season as they held the Tigers to just 10 points. Again the Redhawks committed just one attack errors as they hit .424 in the set.

The fifth and final set was all Redhawks as they jumped ahead 10-6 and coasted to their second five-set victory of the season over the Tigers this season.

Karleigh DeLong recorded her second-straight double-double with a team-high 15 kills and 11 digs. It was her eighth double-double of the season.

Claire Keaton recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 kills and 19 digs.

Kelly Benacka also recorded a double-double 41 assists and 13 digs. It was her team-high 12th double-double.

Emily Hughes finished 11 kills and Paige Dossey added nine kills and a match-best .444 attack percentage.

The Redhawks look to extend their OVC winning streak to three as they travel to Clarksville, Tennessee tomorrow to face Austin Peay at 2:00 p.m.
