Volleyball Bounces Back to Beat Murray State, 3-0
Oct. 24, 2004 By: Patrick Clark - MURRAY, Ky. - (Saturday, October 23, 2004) The Southeast Missouri State volleyball defeated Murray State 3-0 (33-31, 30-27, 31-29) to earn a split on their weekend Ohio Valley Conference road trip. After being swept by Tennessee-Martin on Friday, Southeast played inspired and recorded a sweep of their own. Southeast (6-14, 5-5 OVC) has now won five of their last seven matches. Murray State (4-12, 1-9 OVC) has now lost five straight after losing to Eastern Illinois on Friday night. Southeast won game one despite being out-hit by the Racers .250-.190 in the opening game. Southeast reversed took care of that problem hitting .275 in game two and .255 in game three. Conversely Murray State was held to .146 and .115 in those games. Jessica Koeper (Jackson, MO/Jackson) and Jill Miller (Muncie, IN/Muncie Central) each recorded their second-straight match with double-doubles. Koeper had a game-high 17 kills and added 10 digs while hitting a season-high .300. Miller had 12 kills and 10 digs, serving-up two aces. For each it is their 10th double-doubles of the season.
Jamie Baumstark (Hermann, MO/Hermann) recorded her ninth double-double of the year with a 44 assist/14 dig outing. The 44 assists is her eighth match in which she has handed out 40 or more assists in a match. Brittany Hastings (Wichita, KS/Circle H.S.) tied a career-high with 13 kills with her fourth-straight match in double-digits in kills. Hastings also handed out a career-high six assists. A day after having her streak of 18-straight matches of double-digit digs snapped against the Skyhawks, Lauren Scannell (Belleville, IL/Southwestern Illinois College) had a team-high 15 digs. Southeast continues their road trip when they take on Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Illinois on Wednesday, October 27. |
