Redhawks Slip Past Eastern Illinois In Five Games

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Freshman outside hitter Claire Keaton (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) tallied a career-best 23 kills and three service aces with 13 digs in leading Southeast Missouri State to a thrilling 3-2 (30-13, 24-30, 27-30, 30-28, 15-10) victory over visiting Eastern Illinois tonight in a Ohio Valley Conference contest tonight at Houck Fieldhouse. The Redhawks improved their season record to 15-10 (10-4), while the Panthers fell to 11-12 (4-10) on the year.

Sophomore right side hitter Karleigh DeLong (Corona, Calif./Santiago), sophomore setter Sarah Barth (Germantown, Ill./Central) and junior outside hitter Aubrey Dondlinger (Palos Heights, Ill./Parkland CC) each contributed double-doubles for Southeast. DeLong recorded 20 digs and 15 kills, Barth posted 54 assists with 11 digs, and Dondlinger tallied 15 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore libero Molly Davis (Muncie, Ind./Burris) posted a match-best 30 digs and three service aces, while senior defensive specialist Sirma Ozenir (Izmir, Turkey/Izmir Karsiyaka) added 11 digs and senior middle blocker Brenna Schlader (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) produced four blocks.

Freshman Eliza Zwettler led Eastern Illinois with a double-double of 19 kills and 23 digs, while senior Eliza Zwettler posted a double-double of 18 kills and 24 digs. Senior Maren Crabtree produced a match-best 57 assists with 13 digs. Sophomore Shaina Boylan recorded 26 digs for the Panthers.

The Redhawks held advantages in kills (75-71), assists (70-65) and service aces (8-4), while EIU was tops in digs (104-102) and blocks (12.0-6.0).

Southeast travels to Kentucky this weekend for a pair of OVC contests beginning Friday night at Eastern Kentucky with a start time of 6 p.m. The match will be shown live on the internet at OVCSports.tv.
