Oct. 31, 2004

Box Score

By: Patrick Clark -

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Sunday, October 31, 2004) For the second straight game the Southeast Missouri State volleyball team showed the type of defense that they are capable of by holding Drake University to a .031 hitting percentage enroute to a 3-0 (30-26, 30-15, 30-28) victory. The win is Southeast's second straight and 7th victory in their last 10 matches.

Southeast (8-15, 6-6 OVC) had no problem with the Bulldogs (3-20, 1-12 MVC) the first two games. In game two Southeast held Drake to a minus-.091 hitting percentage. Southeast only made three attacking errors in the second game while hitting .273.

Game three was another story as Southeast had to come from behind to record the win. At one point Drake held a six-point lead, 22-16, but Southeast mounted a comeback and a Brittany Hastings (Wichita, KS/Circle H.S.) kill gave Southeast a 24-23 lead and they held on for the 30-28 win on another Hastings kill to give Southeast the match victory.

Jessica Koeper (Jackson, MO/Jackson) recorded her sixth-straight double-double with an 11 kill/15 dig performance. It is her team-leading 14th double-double of the season.

Freshman Brenna Schlader (Columbia, MO/Hickman) had an outstanding game; she finished with 10 kills with only one attack error, hitting .474. She also had six blocks, two of which were solo blocks.

Jamie Baumstark (Hermann, MO/Hermann) finished with her second-straight double-double with a game-high 35 assists and 11 digs. It is her 11th double-double of the season.

Jill Miller (Muncie, IN/Muncie Central) and Lauren Scannell (Belleville, IL/Southwestern Illinois College) each finished in double-digits in digs with 12 and 13 respectively.

Southeast hits the road for a tough road-trip this coming weekend. They face Eastern Kentucky on Friday, November 5 and then Morehead State the next day. The games are critical as Southeast will try to improve their conference standings for a more favorable seed in the OVC Tournament.
