Volleyball Ends Regular Season with 3-0 Win Over Austin Peay

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Sophomore setter Sarah Barth (Germantown, Ill./Central) and junior outside hitter Aubrey Dondlinger (Palos Heights, Ill./Parkland CC) recorded double-doubles in leading Southeast Missouri State volleyball to a 3-0 (30-20, 30-25, 30-25) win over visiting Austin Peay in its regular-season and Ohio Valley Conference finale at Houck Fieldhouse. The Redhawks improve their record to 20-11 (15-5) and the Lady Govs fell to 8-24 (3-16) on the year.
Barth tallied a match-high 34 assists and 18 digs while Dondlinger scored 10 kills and 12 digs on the night. Sophomore right side hitter Karleigh DeLong (Corona, Calif./Santiago) notched 10 kills, seven digs and a match-best five blocks for the Redhawks, while sophomore libero Molly Davis (Muncie, Ind./Burris) posted a match-high 24 digs.
The Redhawks broke a 10-10 tie in the first stanza with an 8-3 run behind a pair of kills from freshman outside hitter Claire Keaton (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) and DeLong to take an 18-13 advantage. Kills from DeLong and Barth later hiked the home team's leading margin to 29-20 before an Austin Peay hitting error gave Southeast a 1-0 lead.
A kill from Barth handed Southeast a 10-8 lead to open the second game before the visitors posted a quick 3-1 run to even the score at 11-11 with two kills from senior Dodi Szymska. The Redhawks later tallied 10 of the next 14 points to post a 25-19 advantage that was culminated by a kill from DeLong. A pair of kills from senior middle blocker Brenna Schlader (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) increased Southeast's lead to 29-23 before two straight points from the Lady Govs and a Barth kill closed the game with the home team entered intermission ahead two games to none.
In the third game, the Redhawks jumped out to a 10-2 lead with three kills coming from senior outside hitter Brittany Hastings (Wichita, Kan./Circle) before a 9-1 scoring drive propelled Austin Peay to equal the score at 11-11 thanks to three kills from senior Leanne Kreps. After the Lady Govs closed to within 17-16 on a Southeast hitting error, the home team scored a 10-5 run to claim a 27-21 advantage en route to the win.
Syzmska paced Austin Peay with 12 kills, while freshman Sarah Alisaleh posted a double-double with 27 digs and 12 kills. Senior Kristen Kirch notched a team-high 14 digs and freshman Taylor Skinner contributed nine kills.
Southeast recorded match advantages over Austin Peay in kills (57-37), assists (51-35), blocks (11-4), digs (77-59) and service aces (5-0).
The Redhawks now wait for the announcement of their seeding in next week's OVC Tournament, which will be held at Weatherby Gym in Morehead, Ky. Their opponent and match time will be announced early next week.
