Redhawks Volleyball Hosts Spring Weekend Tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Thursday, April 6, 2006) The Redhawks volleyball team will host seven teams this weekend in a weekend tournament at Houck Field House on Saturday, April 8. The Redhawks are in the midst of their spring season after playing a tournament in Carbondale, Illinois last weekend.

The Redhawks will play non-conference rival Southern Illinois University-Carbondale at 9:00 a.m. followed by Southern Indiana at 11:15 a.m. and then conclude with Saint Louis University at 1:15 p.m. Jefferson Junior College, Southwestern Illinois College, Mineral Area Junior College and Washington University (St. Louis) will also participate in the tournament.

The Redhawks finished third at the Saluki Spring Tournament last weekend compiling a record of 2-1.

Nine letterwinners return from last years OVC Tournament semifinal team including First Team All-OVC selection Jessica Koeper (Jackson, MO/Jackson) and Second Team All-OVC Selection Jamie Baumstark (Hermann, MO/Hermann). Brittany Hastings (Wichita, KS/Circle H.S.), Brenna Schlader (Columbia, MO/Hickman) and Katrina Niemeyer (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei) join Koeper and Baumstark as returning starters.

The admission to the tournament is free of charge for all fans.
