CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri volleyball team recently wrapped up its spring season under new head coach Julie Yankus.

Southeast steadily progressed over the course of the spring and looks to carry its success over to next season.

"I'm excited about the future of Southeast Missouri volleyball," said Yankus. "The team's hard work and dedication is evident on the court."

The Redhawks participated in two tournaments earlier this month. Southeast kicked off its spring with a six-team tournament at Houck Field House on Apr. 2. SIU Edwardsville, Southern Illinois, Truman State, Jefferson College and East Central College joined Southeast at the event.

Southeast fashioned an 8-1 record in set play and defeated Truman State in the championship match.

A week later, the Redhawks travelled to Ole Miss for a nine-team tournament. The tournament was broken down into three, three-team pools. Southeast, which was grouped with Murray State and West Alabama, finished first in its pool and later lost close matches to the other pool-winners, including the host Rebels.

"I was proud of the team's effort and determination," said Yankus. "We faced some good competition which helps in our preparation for next season."
