The 2004 Southeast volleyball season has officially begun, with players reporting to campus on Monday, August 9. Practices started on Tuesday, August 10, including two practices a day for the team. The volleyball team will continue with two practices a day until they hold their annual team scrimmage and barbeque on Saturday, August 21. When school starts on the 23rd of August, the team will hold practice only once a day.

All of the training leads to a home match against in-state rival Southwest Missouri State. SMS will travel to Cape to take on the Otahkians on September 1 at 7 p.m. at Houck Fieldhouse. After this home match, the team will participate in two tournaments. The first tournament will be held in Muncie, Ind. at the Ball State Tournament. Southeast will face Ball State, Albany, and Valparaiso. This will mark the second time that Southeast has competed in the tournament. The volleyball team will then travel to Western Kentucky to take on Western Kentucky, Illinois State, and South Florida. This will conclude their tournament schedule for 2004.

There will be many new faces on the team this year, with six newcomers reporting to the team. Although the team will be fairly young, they will rely on pure talent and hard work to carry them through the season. As always, the Otahkians are gearing up to challenge for an OVC title and another trip to the NCAA tournament.
