CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - After completing nearly three weeks of preseason workouts, Southeast Missouri State volleyball welcomed a team of former Southeast players to Houck Fieldhouse this morning to compete in its annual alumni match where the Redhawks picked up a three-game sweep by scores of 30-21, 30-21 and 30-18.

Leading the way for Southeast was senior outside hitter Jessica Koeper (Jackson, MO/Jackson), who recorded a match-best 14 kills and seven digs, while junior middle hitter Brenna Schlader (Columbia, MO/Hickman) tallied 11 kills, three digs and two block assists. Senior setter Jamie Baumstark (Hermann, MO/Hermann) guided the Redhawk offense with 24 assists to go along with three digs and three block assists. Junior outside hitter Brittany Hastings (Wichita, KS/Circle H.S.) and sophomore setter Alyssa Aston (Franklin, TN/Franklin) each produced a match-high eight digs, while sophomore middle blocker Katrina Niemeyer (Germantown, IL/Mater Dei) had nine blocks (one solo, eight assisted) for Southeast.

"Overall, I was pleased with individual efforts, but we still need to work out some kinks before stepping onto the floor at Ole Miss next week," second-year head coach Renata Nowacki said. "I think we had some really bright spots on defense as well as offense so credit goes to the whole team."

Sarah Frost (seven digs, six kills) and Amy Sheehan (16 assists, three digs) led the Southeast alumni team, while Suzanne Gundlach added seven digs and Rachelle Knapp contributed five kills.

The Redhawks open the 2006 season on Friday, Aug. 25 at the Ole Miss Magnolia Invitational in Oxford, Miss., against Pittsburgh with a start time of 12 p.m.
