Hurricane Gustav Forces Cancellation of Tiger Classic

Sept. 2, 2008

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – (Tuesday, September 02, 2008) The Redhawks volleyball team’s weekend trip down south to the Baton Rouge, Louisiana was cancelled due to the damage left in the wake of Hurricane Gustav that hit the Gulf Coast yesterday. The Redhawks were set to play in the Tiger Classic on the campus of Louisiana State University with their first match set against host and 24th-ranked LSU on Friday, September 5 and two matches on Saturday against Rice and Louisiana Tech. The matches will not be rescheduled and the Redhawks will not play this weekend nor find make-up matches.

Hurricane Gustav hit the Gulf Coast Monday morning and continued its way north through Louisiana hitting Baton Rouge with 100 miles per hour wind and downpours of rain that caused flash flooding. As of today nearly 1.4 million homes in Louisiana are without power including over 600,000 people in the Baton Rouge area.

The Redhawks (0-3) will continue their season next week as they head across the Mississippi River to participate in the Saluki Invitational from Sept. 12-13. The Redhawks will take on Arkansas State on Friday at 5:00 p.m. before facing Western Illinois and host Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
