Southeast Volleyball Falls to Arkansas State, 3-1

Sept. 21, 2005

Jonesboro, AR- Tuesday was a rough night for the ladies of Southeast Missouri State University. After quickly winning their first game, the Lady Indians of Arkansas State came back to win three straight games for a 3-1 victory.

The first game looked promising as the Redhawks posted a .250 hitting percentage to take the early lead and never look back to go up in the match 1-0, while ASU was held to -.128 hitting percentage.

The second game was back and forth between the two teams. There were 11 ties and six different lead changes. The Lady Indians held the game's largest lead at four points midway through the game at 18-14 but the Redhawks battled back and took a two-point lead at 26-24. After and ASU timeout, the Indians went on a 6-2 run to close out the game and even the match at one game a piece.

In game three the Lady Indians jumped to a startling 15-7 lead and never looked back. Southeast was held to just a .025 hitting percentage and was defeated in game three.

Game four saw a great effort from the ladies of Southeast as they tried to force a fifth game. The two teams were tied nine different times during the back-and-forth fourth game including the final tie at 18-18. SEMO was finally defeated after their final timeout when the Indians scored five of the next seven points to close out the match.

Southeast was led by outside hitter Lauren Koeper as she tallied 16 kills but was forced into 14 attack errors to finish with a .036 hitting percentage. SEMO libero Lauren Scannell tallied a team-high 26 digs and Koeper chipped in 16 digs in the loss.

The Redhawks will be back in action Friday night as they enter conference play at Tennessee Martin followed by Saturday's game at Murray State. The Redhawks are 3-8 on the season.
