Volleyball Travels To Kentucky For OVC Weekend Matches

Sept. 28, 2006

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State volleyball continues Ohio Valley Conference play on the road this weekend with a pair of matches in Kentucky. The Redhawks open the weekend Friday night against Eastern Kentucky in Richmond with a start time of 6 p.m. Southeast concludes the road trip in Morehead, Ky., on Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. match at Morehead State, one of the three teams that are atop the conference standings.

The Redhawks enter the weekend with a 7-8 record and are 1-1 against OVC teams. Southeast is coming off a three-game homestand last weekend, where it posted a 2-1 record with wins over Bradley and UT Martin. Senior outside hitter Jessica Koeper (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) leads the Redhawks with 223 kills (4.96 kpg) and is ranked second on the team with 179 digs (3.96 dpg).

Eastern Kentucky has a record of 8-8 entering the weekend, including a 1-1 ledger in the OVC. The Colonels dropped their last match last weekend at East Tennessee State in three games. Senior setter Kelly Jennings currently leads EKU with an 11.63 assist-per-game average, which ranks her fourth among conference leaders.

Morehead State brings a 12-6 record with a 2-0 conference mark into its match Friday against Eastern Illinois. The Lady Eagles dropped a four-game decision at home to Xavier on Sept. 26 after defeating EKU and Tennessee Tech in OVC play last week. Leading Morehead State this season are senior outside hitter Laura Cox (260 kills - 3.82 kpg) and sophomore setter Katelyn Barbour (854 assists - 12.00 apg).

The Redhawks host EIU in a midweek OVC contest at Houck Fieldhouse on Oct. 4 with a start time of 7 p.m.
