Oct. 3, 2005

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (October 3, 2005) The Ohio Valley Conference named Southeast Missouri State libero Lauren Scannell (Belleville, IL/Southwestern Illinois College) Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 3. Scannell, a 5-9 senior, averaged 7.3 digs per game this past weekend against Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.

In a 3-0 loss to Eastern Kentucky, Scannell finished with a team-high 26 digs. She had only one receiving error against the Colonels. The following day in a match up against Morehead State, Scannell recorded another 18 digs, to help lead the Redhawks to a 3-0 victory against the Eagles.

Scannell now has a total of 276 digs on the season, and has reached double digit dig totals in each of Southeast's 15 matches this season. For the season, Lauren is averaging 5.1 digs per game for the Redhawks. Southeast is currently 6-9 on the season and 3-1 in OVC play. The 3-1 record in the OVC currently puts the Redhawks in second place in the conference.

Southeast will be on the road this week, starting with a match tomorrow against Eastern Illinois. The Panthers are currently 8-4 on the season and 4-0 in the OVC. Eastern is tied for first place in the OVC and are coming off a big win this past Saturday against Eastern Kentucky.
