Volleyball Faces Jacksonville State and Samford at Home

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State volleyball returns to Houck Fieldhouse this weekend for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference contests. Southeast opens the weekend against defending conference champion Jacksonville State on Friday night at of 7 p.m. The Redhawks will battle Samford with the first serve at 5 p.m., on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the match, Southeast will honors senior players Brittany Hastings (Wichita, Kan./Circle), Sirma Ozenir (Izmir, Turkey/Izmir Karsiyaka) and Brenna Schlader (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) in a Senior Day ceremony.

Southeast brings a 16-11 overall record into this weekend's contests and has notched an 11-5 conference ledger. Last weekend, the Redhawks earned a split in Kentucky with a 3-1 win at Eastern Kentucky and a 3-1 loss at Morehead State. Sophomore right side hitter Karleigh DeLong (Corona, Calif./Santiago) has produced a team-leading 353 kills (3.76 kpg) and ranks second in digs with 326 (3.47 dpg).

Jacksonville State enters the weekend with a 15-8 record, including a 12-4 record against conference opposition. The Gamecocks finished 1-1 last weekend with a 3-0 win at Tennessee State, but dropped a 3-2 decision at Tennessee Tech the next day. Senior outside hitter/middle hitter Abbey Breit leads JSU with 407 kills (4.68 kpg) and 75 blocks (21 solo, 54 assisted - 0.68 bpg) in addition to being second on the team with 339 digs (3.90 dpg).

Samford has tallied a 13-12 record and an 8-8 OVC mark going into its match Friday night at Eastern Illinois. The Bulldogs lost a pair of matches in Tennessee last weekend with a 3-1 loss at Tennessee Tech and a 3-0 loss at Tennessee State. Samford is led by senior middle blocker Angela Dempski's 308 kills (3.24 kpg) and sophomore middle blocker Sheriden Stanghor's 91 blocks (13 solo, 78 assisted - 0.96 bpg).

The Redhawks will travel to Tennessee-Martin for their final OVC regular-season road game of the year on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
