Volleyball Travels To Tennessee Tech for Key OVC Contest
Nov. 2, 2006 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State volleyball continues its four-match, season-ending road swing Saturday, Nov. 4 when it battles Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn. The first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Redhawks are currently a game ahead of the Golden Eagles for the sixth and final spot in this month's OVC Tournament. Southeast captured a four-game victory in the team's first meeting at Houck Fieldhouse on Oct. 6. "We're excited about this weekend's match at Tech because this is going to be a test of character for our team," stated Redhawks head coach Renata Nowacki. "I expect that the team who makes less errors and who wants it more will win. We're both battling for the final spot in the OVC Tournament so this weekend is very important for us." Southeast enters this weekend's match with 13-15 season record and have a 7-6 ledger against OVC competition. The Redhawks have won two of their last three contests, including a 3-1 win at Eastern Illinois on Wednesday. Senior outside hitter Jessica Koeper (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) has produced a team-best 438 kills to go along with 409 digs for the Redhawks this season. Tennessee Tech opens a five-match homestand this weekend with a Friday night contest against EIU and holds a 9-15 ledger (6-6 OVC). The Golden Eagles had their four-match winning streak snapped at home last weekend by OVC-leading Jacksonville State in three games. Leading Tech this season has been the duo of freshman Amanda Lindgren (248 kills, 19 service aces) and sophomore Caitlin Bullock (216 kills, 57 blocks). The Redhawks conclude their regular season schedule next weekend with a pair of OVC contests in Alabama, beginning at Samford on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. |
