Sarah Barth Named Co-OVC Setter of the Week
Nov. 3, 2008
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – (Monday, November 3, 2008) – The Ohio Valley Conference named Redhawks setter Sarah Barth (Central Community/Germantown, Ill.) Co-Setter of the Week for her efforts last week. Barth recorded 98 assists (12.25 per set average), 29 digs (3.62 per set) and 14 kills (1.75) in helping the Redhawks extend their winning streak to a season-high four games. Barth quarterbacked the Redhawks (11-11, 9-5 OVC) to two crucial OVC wins over rival Murray State, 3-2 and Eastern Illinois, 3-0. In the Redhawks five-set win over the Racers, Barth just missed recording her fourth career triple-double as she finished with a season-high 58 assists, tied a career-high with 20 digs and recorded seven kills. It was her fourth double-double of the season as she also set a new career-high with four aces. On Halloween evening Barth displayed some tricks and handed out some treats as the Redhawks coasted to a straight-set, 3-0 win over Eastern Illinois. She finished with a match-high 40 assists, with seven kills and nine digs. She added an attack percentage of .455. Barth again continued her flawless play defensively as she has yet to commit a single receiving error this season. For the season Barth leads the team and ranks second in the OVC in assists with a 9.36 per set. In OVC play that average jumps up to 10.02 per set. For Barth it is her first OVC weekly honor of her career and she’s the fifth different Redhawk to garner OVC weekly honors. Last week Aubrey Dondlinger was named OVC Offensive Player of the the Week. On September 15th the Redhawks swept all three OVC weekly awards with Claire Keaton gaining Offensive Player, Molly Davis earning Defensive Player and Alyssa Aston receiving Setter of the Week awards. Barth shared this week’s setter honors with Murray State’s Jade Guo. |
