Miller Named OVC Player of the Week

Nov. 10, 2003

Not only is the Southeast Missouri State volleyball team winning lots of matches as of late, they are also winning awards.

Sophomore libero Jill Miller was announced as this week's Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week. It is the second time in three weeks that a Southeast player as received Player of the Week honors from the league.

Miller earned the award for her outstanding performances against Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State this past weekend. Southeast won both matches, and climbed into a three-way tie for second place.

Against EKU on Friday, Miller had a career-high 28 digs. That total was also the highest for any Otahkian this season. She followed that performance with a match-high 15 digs in Southeast's win over top-ranked Morehead on Saturday. For the weekend, she averaged 5.38 digs per game, upping her season average to 3.44 on the season.

Miller has had 10 or more digs in 12 of the 14 OVC matches, and has posted double digits in 20 of the team's 27 matches. By no coincidence, during Southeast's winning streak, she has averaged 4.05 digs per game.
