DeLong Earns AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention Accolades

Dec. 6, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State sophomore Karleigh DeLong (Corona, Calif./Santiago) was recently honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as she was named to the All-Midwest Region honorable mention squad, the organization announced yesterday in a press release from its offices in Lexington, Ky. The all-region teams were voted on by coaches in their respective regions.

DeLong is the first Redhawk player to earn all-region honors in five years when former Southeast standout Emily Scannell captured All-Midwest Region honorable mention accolades at the end of the 2002 season.

The 5-11 right side/outside hitter led the Redhawks with 433 kills (3.77 kpg) and 31 service aces (0.27 sapg), while ranking second in digs (3.33 dpg) and blocks (0.75 bpg) en route to earning First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors. She produced 20 double-double on the year which included a career-best 28-kill, 25-dig performance at Tennessee Tech on Sept. 15. DeLong finished the year with four 20-kill matches and six 20-dig matches.

DeLong was one of three OVC players to be honored by the AVCA as Jacksonville State senior outside hitter Abbey Breit was named to the All-Midwest Region team, while Eastern Kentucky senior libero Brittany Nobilio joined DeLong in claiming honorable mention honors.
